| | | | It’s the first Friday of July! Time for the weekly newsletter.
Opening today at the IFI we have a very compelling pairing. Birds Of War is a deeply moving documentary that takes the intimate love story of a London-based Lebanese journalist and a Syrian activist and intertwines it with a vital record of revolution, conflict and displacement; whereas The Invite is an emotional rollercoaster of a comedy, starring Olivia Wilde and Seth Rogen as an argumentative couple who are forced to confront a shocking revelation at their hilariously awkward dinner party.
There are also special events on the horizon. Archive At Lunchtime continues this month with its latest edition, Concrete Proof; the IFI and the Irish Modern Dance Theatre are partnering for Dancer from the Dance, featuring a musical programme of Irish dance shorts and the feature To This I Belong, which will be followed by a Q&A; IFI Family and The Ark are back with screenings of My Father’s Dragon; our Odysseys Season is in full swing with showings of O Brother Where Art Thou?, Paris, Texas, and Two-Lane Blacktop; and Untold Ukraine celebrates the powerful preservation of culture and identity through storytelling, with screenings of Yaremchuk: The Unmatched World Of Beauty and Forever-Forever.
Coming up next, keep an eye out for the melancholic pub-crawl comedy The Last One For The Road, opening July 10th; EAFFI Discoveries Jet Lag In Summer on July 11th, followed by a Q&A with director Kunao Yan; our From The Vaults digital restoration of 1996’s The Last of the High Kings on July 13th; Christopher Nolan’s long-awaited return, The Odyssey, screening in 70mm exclusively at the IFI from July 17th; and GAZE International LGBTQIA Film Festival 2026 from July 29th.
